About Café Cal
Café Cal is a nutrition and meal tracking app that helps you log meals, monitor calories and macronutrients, record exercise, track weight and water intake, and sync with Apple HealthKit. You can log meals by photo, voice, or text description, and our AI-powered analysis estimates the nutritional breakdown for you.
This page is here to help you get the most out of the app. If you don’t find what you’re looking for below, we’d love to hear from you.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I log a meal?
Tap the + button on the home screen. You can log a meal three ways:
- Camera — take a photo of your meal and let the AI estimate the nutrition.
- Voice — describe your meal out loud (e.g., “grilled chicken salad with olive oil”). Café Cal transcribes your description and analyzes it.
- Text — type a description of what you ate.
After the AI returns an itemized breakdown, you can edit any item before saving.
Why isn’t HealthKit syncing?
Café Cal reads steps, active calories, walking/running distance, heart rate, and flights climbed from Apple HealthKit, and can write your logged meals back as dietary samples. If data isn’t syncing:
- Open iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → Café Cal
- Make sure the categories you want to share are turned on.
- Return to Café Cal and pull-to-refresh the home screen.
You can revoke HealthKit access at any time from the same screen.
How do I change my daily calorie and macro goals?
Open Settings within the app, then Goals. You can adjust your daily calorie target and your protein, carb, and fat macros. Changes apply immediately to the current day’s progress.
The AI got my meal wrong — what do I do?
AI nutrition estimates are approximate and aren’t always perfect. Before saving a meal, tap any item to edit the name, portion size, or macros. If an item is missing, you can add it manually; if one shouldn’t be there, you can remove it. Your edits are saved with the meal, not used to retrain the model.
How do I manage notifications?
Meal reminders, water reminders, and daily summaries can all be toggled from Settings → Notifications within the app. You can also manage system-level notification permissions in iOS Settings → Notifications → Café Cal.
Voice entry isn’t working in my language
Café Cal uses Apple’s Speech Recognition framework for voice meal entry. On-device transcription is available for most English locales, German, French, Spanish, and several others. For some languages — including Hindi and Tamil — transcription is handled on Apple’s servers under Apple’s privacy policy, which requires an active internet connection. If voice entry isn’t working, please check that:
- Your device is connected to Wi-Fi or cellular
- Microphone access is enabled for Café Cal in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone
- Your preferred dictation language is enabled in iOS Settings → General → Keyboard → Dictation
Account Management
Delete your account
You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Account → Danger Zone → Delete My Account. You’ll be asked to reauthenticate to confirm, and deletion is permanent — your profile, meal logs, and saved meal photos will be removed from our servers and cannot be recovered.
Export your data
To download a copy of your data, go to Settings → Account → Danger Zone → Export My Data. You’ll receive a JSON file containing your profile information and all of your logged meals, in line with your GDPR data portability rights.
